<p>1501631 Valves EXHAUST BRAKE SALES & SERVICE Ltd 12 May 1975 [13 May 1974] 21123/74 Heading F2V A valve for fitting in the exhaust of an internal combustion engine to provide improved engine braking comprises a closure member 15, which is a loose sliding fit between opposing walls 11 and 12 of a hollow body 10, controlling flow between apertures 13, 14 to which the exhaust pipe is fitted. The valve is operated by a single acting piston and cylinder device 17 mounted on a removable plate 16 which defines the valve chamber. The closure member is held by exhaust gas pressure in sealing engagement with either the wall 11 or the wall 12, depending upon the direction of flow through the valve. Recesses 31 in the face of the closure member reduce the area in contact with the seat to reduce friction and to provide a scraping action to clean the valve. Nylon scraper rings 28, 30 are provided to remove carbon deposits from the piston-rod 21. Alternatively a single scraper ring 32 may be provided.</p> |
