The rectangular building block (1) is of cast clay, is precisely made with shear keys (2) to permit dry jointing, and has longitudinal passages (5) for service pipes, cables or similar. Certain blocks have lateral openings (6, 7) giving access to the service passages (5). The shear keys are provided on the horizontal bed joints and may be formed by a single longitudinal trapezoidal section tongue (2) and grooving. The passages open out on both of the end faces of the block. Also, special blocks may have transverse or vertical (8, 9) passages and a proportion of the longitudinal passages (5) may be filled with insulating material. Further special blocks may have slots in the lateral faces and receiving demountable covers.
|
