1388947 Three-component terpolymer catalyst UNIROYAL Inc 26 April 1972 [10 May 1971] 19342/72 Heading C3P Ethylene-propylene-non-conjugated polycyclic diene terpolymer rubbers are obtained by polymerization in the presence of a catalyst comprising (a) vanadium oxytrichloride, (b) an alkyl aluminium sesquihalide or a dialkylaluminium halide, and (c) a polypropylene glycol of molecular weight 200 to 3000, the atomic ratio of aluminium to vanadium being at least 4 : 1 and the amount of (c) being sufficient to provide at least one gram atom of ether oxygen per gram atom of vandium and up to one gram atom of ether oxygen per gram atom of aluminium. In examples ethylene-propylene-5-ethylidene-2- norbornene or dicyclopentadiene terpolymers are obtained using as catalyst mixtures of components (a) and (c) with ethyl aluminium sesquichloride, diethyl aluminium chloride or diisobutylaluminium chloride. |
