1332089 Caissons SOC DES GRANDS TRAVAUX DE MARSEILLE 8 March 1972 [15 March 1971] 10749/72 Heading E1H A removable means for closing a dock or water basin comprises at least one floodable reinforced-concrete, prestressed-concrete or steel caisson 1, which adjacent its face subjected to the higher water level is provided with deformable sealing strips 8, 9 adapted to co-operate with the side walls 2, 3 of the dock or basin to provide watertight side seals, and is also provided with a bottom abutment member 13 adapted to co-operate with an inclined edge 15 and a sealing member 17 in the floor of the dock or basin to provide a watertight bottom seal. The strips 8, 9 may each comprise a rigid panel formed with deformable rubber edge strips (Fig. 3, not shown). Similar strips are provided between adjacent caissons, when the said means is formed from a number of aligned caissons. The sealing member 17 may comprise a wooden board or a neoprene strip. When emptied of water the caisson floats and can then be towed away. |
