1477528 Bituminous cationic emulsions MOBIL OIL CORP 5 Nov 1974 15 Nov 1973] 47780/74 Heading BIV A bituminous cationic emulsion useful as a binder consists of 50-75% by weight of bitumen, water, a mineral acid, an N-hydrocarbyl alkylene diamine of the formula where R and R' are individually hydrogen, alkyl, aryl or aralkyl, at least one of R or R' being an organic group, the total N-hydrocarbyl content of R groups being from 1-30 carbon atoms and n is 1-5, and as a pH control agent a second amine selected from an aliphatic monoamine having 1-8 carbon atoms, an alkanolamine, or alkylene polyamine where m is 1-3 and r is 1-6 and an aromatic amine, the second amine being capable of reacting with acidic ions in the water phase whereby the pH of the emulsion is from 4-7. C 16 -C 18 alkylene diamines, hydrochloric acid and alkanolamines are preferred as the first amine, mineral acid and second amine respectively. The breaking time of the above emulsion may be controlled by addition of an organic amine which reacts with chloride ions present in the aqueous phase. The adhesiveness of the emulsion may be increased by addition of an alkanolamine. |
