The safety mechanical switch is for cassette tape recorders, to prevent damage to the tape caused by its continuing to be driven during winding after the take-up spool has stopped revolving, which would cause the build-up and crumpling of the tape. An intermediate pulley (8) has its cylindrical surface driven by a flywheel (13); a detector arm (3) detects movement of the tape, and the switch is linked to the take-up spool by linkages (1, 2). The spools and the intermediate pulley rotate about parallel axes.
