A launching winch is for gliders. It has a winching cable passing over a rope inlet guide moved by a motor driven rope drum during its winding up movement. There is a capping device positioned between the cable or rope inlet guide and the rope winch. The winch is fitted with an axially slipping claw clutch through which a rope drum amy be put into or out of gear and with a rope inlet guide attached to a swivelling spooling arm equipped with a capping device. The spooling arm fully synchronises the spool forward movement on the rope drum through a spooling drive and simultaneously the rope guide and the rope support rollers lie symmetrically to the spooling arm length axis for the inward run of the rope.
