A plant for classifying a material contd. in water incorporates a rotary drum with a front outlet, a rear outlet, a feed duct, a classifying system and a discharge system. The feed duct is fixed concentrically in the drum and extends from the front to the back; rotating with it.The classifying system comprises helicoidal blades and baffle plates, causing the material to be deposited on the bottom of the drum and transferred towards the rear end of it. The discharge system at the rear end of the drum, comprises a number of vanes with holes to separate the water from the material before it is discharged and a conical discharge at the centre of the vanes, with its surface inclined towards the exterior.Arrangement is esp. for sepg. sand from muddy water. Amt. of solids discharged is increased for conventionally sized plants.
