The rudder is for a boat whose propeller is housed in a cage. It has an extension at the rear attached to the main body by hinges. The top of the extension carries a sleeve (6) in which slides a rod (5), the latter being rotatable about a mounting (8) attached to the hull of the boat. When the rudder is turned, the extension is at an angle to the main body. The guide sleeve pref. extends into the region above the main body of the rudder. A stop pin (15) may be positioned at the outer end of the rod. The rudder can be turned through 90 deg. to prevent damage by lock gates.
