1456464 Olefin polymerization catalysts MITSUI PETROCHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 23 Aug 1974 [24 Aug 1973] 37217/74 Addition to 1433537 Heading C3P A catalyst for the homopolymerization of a mono olefin or the copolymerization thereof with an ethylenically unsaturated compound comprises (a) an organometallic compound of a metal of Groups I-III of the Periodic Table, and (b) a component prepared by reacting a T 1 or V compound with the reaction product obtained by (i) reacting an organoaluminium compound and an alcohol simultaneously or sequentially in this order with a solid magnesium dihalide carrier or (ii) by reacting the organoaluminium compound with the alcohol and then reacting the resulting product with the magnesium dihalide. Ethylene may be homopolymerized or copolymerized with propylene, butene, hexene, methyl pentene, octene, butadiene, isoprene, ethylidene norbornene, dicyclopentadiene and 1,4-hexadiene. In the examples ethylene is homopolymerized or copolymerized with butadiene or butene-1 in n- or iso-hexane or kerosene continuously or batchwise in the presence of hydrogen using a catalyst in which (a) is triethyl-, triisobutyl- or tri-n-hexyl aluminium or diethylaluminium chloride and (b) is formed by reacting MgCl 2 , one of diethylaluminium bromide or chloride, triethylaluminium, ethylaluminium dichloride, tri-n-hexyl aluminium, diethylaluminium ethoxide or diisobutylaluminium hydride and one of ethanol, methanol, isopropanol, n-butanol, n-octanol, benzyl alcohol, ethylene glycol, propenyl alcohol or in one of the prescribed orders and reacting the product with one of TiCl 4 , VCl 4 , VOCl 3 , Ti(OEt)Cl 3 , TiBr 4 or Ti(OBu) 2 Cl 2 .
|
