A transparent parallelepiped container for growing plants, comprises a cover (2) provided with a flange (3) which grips the upper wall (7) of a base member (1). The top of the cover has lugs (15, 16, 17, 18) which enclose similar lugs on the bottom of a further base member when the containers are stacked. The base has partitions slidably engaged in grooves in the inner walls. Water condensed on the inside of the cover is prevented from escaping to the outside by an inner flange depending from the cover so as to extend below the joint.
