The light switch gradually increases light intensity from zero to the wanted level to avoid dazzling the user--i.e. to allow his eyes time to adjust to the new light level. The delay between zero intensity (or a min. intensity) and max. intensity may lie between 10 ms and 3s. The switch acts as an on/off switch with a gradual increase in current supply -- provided e.g. by a variable resistor. The slider must traverse the resistor before the 'on' contact of the switch is reached. A time counter may also be used.
