<p>In a process where olefinic reactants are coupled by redn. by electrolysis of an aq. liq. medium contg. these reactants, and a heavy metal passes into the medium in substantial quantities, there is added to the medium during electrolysis, sufficient of a free sequestering agent for the heavy metal so as to maintain the concn. of heavy metal dissolve in the medium at a stable value and to maintain an excess of free sequestering agent in the medium. Increased formation of molecular H2 is inhibited; possible redn. of selectivity for the desired prod. is also inhibited.</p>
