[Also in Division C2] A spent cation exchange resin containing adsorbed basic heterocyclic compounds containing one or more nitrogen atoms in the heterocyclic ring is regenerated to its acid form by washing the resin with deionized water. The deionized water may be employed at an elevated temperature, e.g. the boiling point, when the washing with water may be combined with treatment of the resin with steam followed by condensation of the resulting vapours and recovery of the heterocyclic compound from the condensate. The cation exchange resin may be one that is based on polystyrene cross-linked with divinyl benzene and sulphonated. The examples describe the desorption of oxazole. |
