PURPOSE:To keep the picture quality of an output picture in a certain or higher level regardless of the secular change of a recording medium of a picture output means by detecting the test pattern outputted from a pattern generating means and correcting the degradation in characteristic of the whole of a picture system by a correcting means. CONSTITUTION:The original picture inputted from a picture input part 21 like an image scanner or a CCD camera is subjected to gamma correction in a picture processing part 22 and is outputted from a picture output part 24. A pattern generating part 25 is provided which generates the test pattern for the purpose of detecting the secular change of the recording medium, and the test pattern outputted from the pattern generating part 25 is temporarily printed by a picture output part 24, and printed results are read again by the picture input part 21, and output data Dn of the pattern generating part 25 and output data D'n from the picture input part 21 are compared with each other by a correcting part 26 to correct they characteristic of the picture processing part 22. Thus, the secular change of the recording medium of the output device is compensated to always keep the output picture in a certain or higher picture quality level. |
