PURPOSE:To prepare hydrogen efficently at a lower reaction temperature than the conventional one at a low cost, by reacting LNG with steam in the presence of a catalyst containing nickel supported on a specific natural zeolite. CONSTITUTION:A natural zeolite produced near MINASE village, MINASE District in AKITA Prefecture (a kind of tuff containing SiO2, Al2O3 and H2O essentially and 1-10wt% oxides of alkali (earth) metals, is used as a carrier, crushed to a suitable particle size, washed with water, and dried. The resultant zeolite is then added to an aqueous solution of nickel nitrate and stirred at about aqueous solution of nickel nitrate and stirred at about 100 deg.C for about 1hr. The zeolite impregnated with the aqueous solution of the nickel nitrate is then pulled out and calcined at about 400 deg.C for about 1-1.5hr to form a catalyst which is used to react LNG with steam. The resultant catalyst provides hydrogen at about 700 deg.C or below in a quantity equal to that obtained at a reaction temperature of about 800 deg.C. |
