<p>The piston is designed to lag 15mm behind the gudgeon pin in order that 20 per cent less air and fuel will be drawn into the combustion chamber on the induction stroke. The piston has a slide path for the gudgeon pin. The slide path permits the piston to lag behind the gudgeon pin on the induction stroke, and assume a normal position at the start of the compression stroke. A 20 per cent saving in fuel consumption is claimed totether with a 50 per cent decrease in CO exhaust emission as compared with a similar engine. The slide path has a spring to prevent lateral movement of the gudgeon pin and cushion its movements.</p> |
