Pressurised heat exchanger for cracked gas cooler - has tube end plates with recessed seats for reducing weld thickness

The pressurised heat exchanger used especially as cracked gas cooler, has the tube ends welded into flared holes in the tube plates. The tube plate acts as compensator for the longitudinal expansion of the tubes. The connection between the tubes and plates are economical to make and they are readily repaired. The heat exchanger is used at high temperatures and pressures. A tube palte (7) is provided on free face with a recessed seat (14) concentric to the tube (9). this seat (13) is connected to the flared hole (16) into which tube (9) is welded. The welded joint is confined to the depth of the flared hole and the weld hence does not reach over the full depth of the tube end plate.
