The setting and stopping of the printer are controlled by a pivoted lever (2) which carries a double pawl unit (10/11) held in the terminal position by a spring (16) coiled around a rod (14) and thrust against the spring stop (17) of the lever. The lever supports arms (3/4) on its two sides with their free ends connected to a crankpin (8) by links (5/6), while the block (15) supported by a stud (13) of a lever (12) is operated by a cable (18) and solenoid (19) to switch over the pawls. The pivot of the lever (2) also holds guide rollers (20) of the cable (18) drawn by the solenoid to shift the pawl (11) into its lowermost position.
