Oil lubricated engine in motor vehicle - is fitted with cloth pad for wiping oil indicator dip stick

The engine of an automobile is oil lubricated and fitted with a dip stick to indicate the oil level in the sump. The stick has to be withdrawn and wiped before being reinserted to obtain a measurement of the oil depth. To facilitate this operation a soft pad is permanently fixed inside the engine compartment. A pad of suitable material is held on a bracket with a flanged bac and an uptured front edge. The flanged back is attached to the bulkhead of the engine compartment by a suitable adhesive and the upstand front edge keeps the pad in place.
