1419350 Thixotropic compositions FIRESTONE TYRE & RUBBER CO Ltd 31 May 1974 [31 May 1973] 24332/74 Addition to 1388683 Heading C3F A thixotropic composition comprises hydroxypropyl cellulose dissolved in isopropyl alcohol, optionally with water present (in which case the alcohol and water form an azeotrope), this liquid phase having a lubricant of viscosity at least 2000 cps. at 20‹ C. and a fine particulate material dispersed in it. The hydroxypropyl cellulose has a preferred DS of 2 to 3 and a preferred MS of at least 3. The lubricants exemplified are silicone polyglycol copolymer and silicone oil/water emulsion. The particulate matter disclosed is mica with, sometimes, carbon black pigment added.
