The single structure which is both the roof and the heat capturing unit comprises a framework supporting a double layer of glass over an Al plate through which run pipes in which circulates the liq. which carries the heat. The pipework is connected to a tank which is divided into compartments corresp. to different heat zones. The heating unit may be used in domestic or industrial buildings for supplying hot water both for sanitary purposes and central heating. Because the unit is part of the roof structure the problem of extra weight being imposed on the roof is avoided and the expense of two separate structures does not occur.
