A fermented fodder is prepd. by seeding is not 1 yeast of the genus Pichia or Hensenula, or Schizosaccharomyces octosporus, which can utilise uric acid, onto a medium consisting of uric-acid contg. poultry excrement, extracts from poultry excrement, or dried poultry excrement, as a source of N for the yeast, and glucose, ethanol or maize steep liquor as source of C, growing the yeast under aerobic conditions in this medium, and collecting the protein-rich yeast. The yeast grow rapidly, and give max. yield in up to 2 days. Excreta from poultry breeding (about 5,000,000 tons/year in Japan) can be utilised to give a feed of high quality. In addn., pollution of the environment is prevented. Suitable yeasts include P. membranaefaciens, P. miso, p. farinosa. H anomala, H subpelliculosa, H petersonii and S. octosporus. The culture medium may contain methanol as C source. |
