<p>1502750 Slab quenching DAVY-LOEWY Ltd 25 Feb 1975 [20 Dec 1973] 59027/73 Heading C7N A slab quenching installation comprises first and second spray-quenching stations 12, 13, and an intermediate soak station 14 where the slab 15 stands to allow temperature equalization. The slabs 15 are moved intermittently on skid rails 16 by ducking dogs 17 carried by reciprocating beam 18. The slabs are sprayed in the quenching stations by water from nozzles 23 above the slabs and by high velocity jets (24), Fig. 2 (not shown) between the rails 16. The quenched slabs are fed to a piling device 33 and removed. The sprayed water may be collected and recycled, e.g. through pipes 46 to sump 34. A pump 36 draws water from the sump 34 and replenishing tank 45 and supplies it to pipes 38, 39 to the quenching stations through valves 40, 41 which are actuated, e.g. by photo-electric cells or limit switches, to operate only when a slab is in position in the quenching station.</p> |
