The problem solved by the handle is that of preventing the user from steering the lawnmower if the handle is tilted so that the distance between the rotary blade and the vertical passing through the handle is less than a minimum safety distance. For this purpose the tiltable handle for a lawnmower has a part in the shape of a stirrup, the arms (10, 11) of which are elastically approachable and provided at their ends with toothed components (12, 13) which can engage with complementary fixed toothed components (6, 7). An eccentric lever (14) acts on one of these ends and is connected to a tie rod (8) which acts on the other of these ends. The toothed components and complementary components (6, 7; 12, 13) have projections which are designed to overlap and thus prevent the teeth from engaging at a given inclination of the handle (1). <IMAGE>
