The rotary shaft seal has an internal sealing lip (4b) which is attached to an axial collar (2b). A clamp ring (5b) made from coil spring provides the sealing lip with the required contact pressure. The axial collar is provided with reinforcements (10b) which prevent the sealing lip ring (4b) from producing rotary oscillations due to shaft drag. The collar reinforcing is therefore made from crossed over elements which are curved in a radial direction. The average angle between the reinforcing and the radial direction is about 45 deg..
