1535138 Extruding; forging ZEITGEIST AG 2 March 1977 [7 April 1976] 08841/77 Headings B3P and B3H Apparatus for fastening a sleeve 3 to the ends of adjacent axially aligned reinforcing rod ends 1, 2 comprises fluid pressure operated jack units each having a cylinder 9, a piston and a piston rod 6 and latching means for releasably securing the cylinders together around one of the reinforcing in a zone not occupied by the sleeve. At least two die segments 4, which form a bore at least a part of which is dimensionally smaller than the external dimension of the sleeve, are loosely mounted on the free ends of the piston rods 6 so as to be capable of limited rotational movement in a longitudinal direction. The jack cylinders 9 are mounted on plates 10 to which are secured pusher means 12 which engage an end of the sleeve 3 and drive it together with the rods 1, 2 through the die. As ribs 31 on the rods pass through the die they cause the limited rotational movement of the die segments 4 relatively to each other so that the external diameter of the sleeve increases from D 1 to D 2 at each rib, Fig. 9. Preferably external longitudinal ribs are formed on the sleeve exterior by the provision of recesses 30 in the die segments and by spacer bars 20, which keep the segments separated. The bars 20 are fitted with spring loaded ball clips 21 engaging in recesses in the die segments, the relative rotation of which is limited by the provision of elongated ring members 23. |
