Daylight insensitive recording element sensitive to ionising radiation - contg. stannic cpd., with a cpd. promoting formation of stannous ions on irradiation

A recording element sensitive to ionising radiation comprises at least one recording sheet or layer contg. a cpd. of Sn (IV), excluding Sn (IV) oxide, mixed with a cpd. (I) contg. at least one labile H atom in the presence of which the Sn (IV) cpd. can be converted into a Sn (II) cpd. by ionising radiation. The Sn (IV) cpd. and (I) are present pref. in a porous support or a layer of binding material permeable to water, or on a support resistant to water in an absorbent binding material. The Sn(IV) cpd. is e.g. dibutyl-Sn (IV)-maleate or dimethyl-Sn(IV)-dichloride. The recording element can be exposed and developed to give visible images corresp. to patterns of ionising radiation.
