<p>Compsns. for treating peripheral vascular disorders in humans with inadequate circulation in the extremities, contain sufficient of a PGE1 cpd. (I) to alleviate pain when the patient is resting, or to start healing of ulcers. The compsns. are administered by other than the intra-arterial route. (I) may be a PGE1 salt; a lower alkyl, esp. methyl, ester or the amide and can be formulated as a saline or aq. soln. or as a coated tablet. The dangers and difficulties of intra-arterial injection are avoided, and (I) does not have to be passed through the lungs (where it undergoes rapid metabolism to relatively inactive cpds.,) before reaching the affected links. The relief of pain often lasts for several weeks after the end of the treatment.</p> |
