The device has a bearing block fixed to the front of the head of an unweaned calf, the block carrying an inclined arm. This arm is pressed upwards against a thrust bearing by spring action and at its free end carries rollers which, on coming against the udder of a milk cow, inflict pain on the cow. Two electrodes (26, 28) are fitted to the free end of the arm (14). On swivelling the arm (14) against the spring action (20), the electrodes (26, 28) are connected to a battery fed electrical probe transmitter (36) via a swivel closed contact (34). The bearing block (12) and the probe transmitter (36), are fitted to a plate (40) which is fixed to the head part (10) of the cow. The electrodes are arrange on two coaxial rollers (56, 52) of insulating material.
