The assembly for constructing micro-optical benches consists of four horizontal round guide bars (1) along which receiver plates (2) may be moved. Each plate is square with a central opening (5) into which optical elements such as lenses, filters, and prisms may be fitted. In each corner is a boring through which the guide rod passes. Both plates have borings (7) tangential to the corner guide holes. The tangential holes slightly cut into the through holes so that a clamping peg (3) pushed into the tangential hole locks the plate against the guide rod. The second plate is locked by means of two similar pegs mounted on a bridge-piece (4).
