摘要 1501308 Ion-exchange HOOGOVENS IJMUIDEN BV 8 July 1976 [9 July 1975] 28506/76 Heading B1J The regeneration of a weak base anion exchanger in the form of a particulate mass is effected by passing a slurry of lime in water having a calcium hydroxide concentration in the range of 1 to 5% by weight upwardly through the mass while the mass is in a compacted state, with a flow rate of at least 10m<SP>3</SP> per hour per m<SP>3</SP> of the mass. The flow rate is such as to compact the resin bed at the top end of the vessel. Thereafter, the regenerating agent is displaced and the mass rinsed with water. Rinsing may be effected with the mass still in a compacted state, but preferably is effected while the mass is completely expanded and preferably while introducing air. The method allows the use of as little free space above the bed as 30% of the space occupied by the mass. It is particularly applicable to macroporous exchangers. The spent resin may have been used for desalination of brackish water which has already passed through a strong acid cation exchanger.
