Oil, or fat, to be purified is contained in the open, upper part of a bath which has a filter membrane at its base. Below the filtration media is an enclosed compartment subjected to pressures below atmospheric which draws oil through the filter cloth leaving waste solids behind. Possible filtration media include perforated plates and filter papers and the lower chamber may be equipped with a pump to produce pressure difference across membrane and remove oil. Advantages claimed include reduced cleaning requirements owing to greater efficiency than existing systems. |
