A process is described for preparing alkyl isocyanates having 1 to 5 carbon atoms in the alkyl radical. The process is based on the dehydrohalogenation of the corresponding carbamic acid halides, where the hydrogen halide is bound by reaction with another isocyanate, whose boiling point is situated above the decomposition point of the carbamic acid halide corresponding to it, and the resulting alkyl isocyanate is removed from the reaction space by evaporation. |
