ACTIVATED CARBON COMPOSITION FOR MOLDING AND MOLDED MATERIAL OF ACTIVATED CARBON

PURPOSE:To improve plastic moldability and to enhance the specific surface area and to make adsorbing capacity large by incorporating the prescribed amount of polysaccharides being a natural origin such as glucan as a molding adjuvant in activated carbon and preparing the activated carbon composition for molding. CONSTITUTION:A uniform mixture is prepared by adding both polysaccharides being a natural origin as a first molding adjuvant and a second molding adjuvant in accordance with necessity while keeping a powdery state to activated carbon powder and sufficiently mixing them. Activated carbon composition suitable for plastic molding is prepared by adding the proper amount of water to this uniform mixture and sufficiently mixing these materials. This activated carbon composition is molded to a prescribed shape by applying an extruding method. This molded material is dried at room temp. or 110 deg.C and if necessary, furthermore calcined at 600-1400 deg.C to produce the molded material of activated carbon.
