The distance measuring appts. determines difference in parallax of infra-red radiation emitted by an object and received by two of four optical systems. The radiation is modulated, and its phase-shift is measured, from which distance can be determined. This does not require a reflected signal from the target object. Radiation emitted by a point source is received by four plane mirrors (5P1-1V) which are mounted at the ends of a base line, with one pair above the other. The incident radiation traverses four identical optical systems (51-1V) of the Cassegrain type. These produce four point images on the lateral surfaces of two coaxial rotating drums (TR1, 2) of the same diameter on a common axis (A). These drums apply modulation, and the radiation is detected by sensors in each of the drums from which phase shifts are measured. |
