Mortar for laying floor tiles comprises a mixt. of (a) particles of vulcanised rubber, pref. comminuted scrap rubber and (b) an organic binder which adheres to the floor, the tiles and the rubber. The mortar is laid in layers 2-25mm (pref. 3-10mm) thick directly onto the floor and the tiles are applied directly to the mortar. Pref. the consistency of the mortar is such that the tiles are ready for service as soon as they have been laid. The rubberised mortar is esp. useful for applying tiles to wooden floors, which retain a certain flexibility which causes cracking of cement mortars unless they are laid in very thick layers. The rubberised mortar can be used directly without intermediate layers, and is lighter in wt. than cement mortar.
|
