The oil sump comprises an intermediate frame (4) connectable to the crankcase and a sump body (8). The intermediate frame (4) and sump body (8) each have a flange (12, 15) and are connected by a rubber-elastic cord (19) bearing on these flanges. The flanges (12, 15) overlap. The flange (12) of the intermediate frame (4) has a section (13) inclined towards the assigned frame wall and the flange (15) of the sump body (8) a section (16) inclined towards the assigned sump body wall. Each of these sections (13, 16) merges by way of an arched part into the wall assigned to it. The rubber cord is for the most part vulcanised onto the transitional parts. Due to the improved lateral guiding of the sump body (8) the metallic knocking of the sump body (8) against the intermediate frame (4), which occurs in known designs, can be prevented. In addition, the cord (18) is not exposed to inadmissible shear stresses. <IMAGE>
