High slip fabrics are rendered non slip by treatment with a foamed conc. to highly conc. aq. dispersion of a film forming polymer, followed by heat treatment. Pref. the textile is treated with 10-50, esp. 15-25 wt. % of the foamed dispersion, calculated as 100% polymer. The polymers are known materials based e.g. on vinyl acetate, vinyl chloride, vinylidene chloride, ethyl acrylate, acrylonitrile or 2-ethylhexylacrylate, or (esp.) copolymers based on ethylene, malic acid, acrylic acid, methyl methacrylate, butyl acrylate, styrene, butadiene, vinyl ether, 2-hydroxy-ethylacrylate and divinyl benzene. The polymer may also contain cross linking gps. derived e.g. from N-methylol (meth)acrylamide. The process is esp. useful for treating high slip fabrics such as those with a net- or gauze like construction and those with a low fibre count in the warp or weft. The use of foamed dispersions gives improved non slip characteristics while using less polymer than in prior art systems using unfoamed polymer dispersions.
|
