1485059 Moulding material for an electric motor SONY CORP 23 Dec 1974 [27 Dec 1973] 55580/74 Heading B5A [Also in Division B3] In a method of making an electric motor a body formed from a mixture of a thermosetting resin and a thermoplastic resin is moulded around the assembled polepiece core 16 and ring core 9. The cores 16, 9 are formed from laminations simultaneously stamped from sheet silicon steel. The resin mixture may be comprised of, e.g. unsaturated polyester resin (monomers) 80% by wt. and polystyrene or acrylic resin (polymer) 20% by wt. and is injected into a mould to form a casing 2 and to encapsulate the windings on the core 16. Filling materials are added to the resins such as calcium carbonate or aluminium oxide and fibres. A portion 15 of the core 16 is machined away to open the core slots and a rotor 3 is inserted into the stator so formed. Finally an end cover is moulded similarly and secured in an opening 20 of the stator body.
