摘要 1358655 Cutting, collating and stacking sheets M D MARTIN 20 Oct 1972 [28 July 1972] 48370/72 Heading B8R Sheets discharged from a corrugator 2, Fig. 1, are cut into a plurality of narrow sheets 3 and conveyed in rows between upper and lower bands of a conveyer 4 on to a side take-off conveyer 6 comprising rollers 12 rotating so as to convey the sheets are right-angles to the discharge direction, and at such a speed that the leftmost sheet 3 in a row is deposited on the conveyer 6 and moved into position to receive the second leftmost sheet of the next row at the time that sheet is deposited, so that piles of sheets are formed on the conveyer 6, the number of sheets in each pile being the same as the number of sheets in each row. The piles are then carried to an accelerator conveyer 7 comprising friction rollers 22 rotating more rapidly than the rollers 12 so as to space the piles from each other, to a transfer conveyer 8 travelling more slowly than the accelerator, and to a stacker conveyer 9 travelling faster than the conveyer 8 so as to shingle the sheets in each pile. The speed of the conveyer 6 is synchronized with the discharge velocity of the corrugator by a tachometer control 112, wherein delay means comprising a condenser is connected between the tachometer generator and a variable electric motor 13 driving the conveyer 6, so that when the speed of the corrugator alters, the speed of the conveyer 6 is not altered until all sheets discharged at the first speed have been collated. If the conveyer 6 is driven by a fluid motor, the tachometer generator controls an electric motor driving a variable volume pump for the fluid motor, and the delay means comprises a pressure accumulator in a by-pass between the pump and the fluid motor. Sheets discharged on to the conveyer 6 are aligned against a plurality of bullet-shaped back-stops 61, Figs. 1, 5 and 6, adjustable towards and away from the conveyer 4 by a motor 51 and chain 47 according to sheet size. In the event of the sheets being too long for the rollers 12, the assembly of stops 61 is swung upwards out of the feed path about a pivot 74. A converter mechanism, comprising channels 81, Fig. 11, supporting vertical cross plates 83 carrying a plurality of guide wheels 84 between each pair of rollers 12, is raised on a parallel linkage 87 by an actuating lever 91 so that the wheels 84 project above the rollers 12, and the conveyer 6 now allows the sheets to be discharged therefrom in the same direction as the feed of the conveyer 4. Sheets carried by the conveyer 9, Figs 1 and 15, are stacked against back-stops 92, 93, which are adjustable according to sheet width along a shaft 97 by threaded engagement therewith, the shaft being rotated by a handle 104 or a motor 107. The conveyers 6, 7, 8, 9 are driven by separate variable-speed motors linked to produce a constant proportional speed. Sheet piles on the conveyers 7, 8 are held down by guide rollers 34, 39.
