Relaxing textured synthetic yarn by heat-treating - by forming into a plug and feeding onto heated rotating drum

Textured synthetic yarn is heat treated to relax it by advancing the yarn into stuffer boxes to form a plug, and advancing the plug of yarn at e.g. from the stuffer, boxed onto the surface of a rotating drum. The plug of yarn wraps around the drum which has porous walls and to the interior of which is heated gas (e.g. air, steam) is supplied. Finally the yarn is unwound from the plug and taken up on take-up packages. The yarn is untensioned during heat treatment and a more uniform yarn results.
