<p>The light emitting electrodes of the diode are enclosed in a transparent, cylindrical, protective housing which is bounded by a convex surface in the direction of light emission. The convex, domed housing surface consists of a structure of a number of stepped, abutting surface elements (8, 9) at least in its axially distant region. The abutting edges of the stepped surfaces are directed at right angles to the axis of the housing. Preferably the surface elements are facing a projection surface at right angles to the housing axis over the zenith of the domed surface. Alternately they may be orientated axis-parallel to the projection surface. The surface elements may be in the form of concentric enclosed annular surfaces.</p> |
