<p>Seal for use in a bore in a barrel-shaped housing, sleeve, etc. comprises a circular-section shaft with an annular groove in which is seated an elastomeric sealing ring, and a cover protecting the ring. The shaft and integral cover are made of PTFE. The cover is thin enough relative to the ring to form a resilient annular bead in the cover. The cover is integral with the shaft on one side of the ring, and on the other side it has a compressed rolled end portion, so that the ring is sealed on both sides by the cover. The ring is not susceptible to attack by solvents, and can therefore be used with corrosive and poisonous fluids, inert gases, liquids of high purity e.g. ether, pyridene, etc.</p> |
