PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to immediately discriminate a 'false focusing state' generated in case of a periodic subject. SOLUTION: This device is equipped with plural optical systems 2a and 2b for focus detection which split luminous flux passed through a primary image formation plane and form secondary image formation planes conjugate to the primary image formation plane individually by the split pieces of luminous flux and a phase difference detecting means which finds the correlation between light images formed on the secondary image formation planes through the optical systems for focus detection and detects the spatial phase difference. In this case, the optical systems 2a and 2b for focus detection are composed of mutually asymmetrical optical systems, and form 'similar light images' on the secondary image formation planes as to a light image formed on the primary image formation plane and 'nonsimilar light images' on the secondary image formation planes as to a light image formed deviating from the primary image formation plane. |
