1497887 Making and/or machining gears GRASSOS KONINKLIJKE MACHINEFABRIEKEN NV 16 June 1975 [2 July 1974] 25594/75 Heading B3K In a method of making or machining a gear wheel for use in sealing co-operation with a globoid worm of a rotary machine such as a compressor a disc-like blank or preformed gear workpiece A is rotated about an axis and a rotary cutter 16, 17 is rotated about an axis at right angles to the workpiece axis, the speeds of rotation of the workpiece and the cutter having the same ratio as that of the gear and globoid worm in the machine for which it is to be used, the axes being continuously or stepwise moved towards each other to perform the gear cutting operation by engagement between the cutter and workpiece. In the embodiment described the workpiece gear or blank is mounted on a rotatable shaft 12 and the cutter has two radially extending knives 14, 15 which are attached to a shaft 13 and rotated simultaneously in a predetermined ratio with the blank. |
