A pharmaceutical substrate is electrostatically coated by bringing it to a coating station (B), adjacent to a source of particulate coating material, where it is held and electrically isolated from its surroundings. The substrate and coating material are held at sufficiently different potentials to coat the exposed surface of the substrate with particles of the coating material. Also claimed is a solid pharmaceutical dosage having one coated and one uncoated face, two different coatings, coatings of different colours or coatings containing different polymers.
