The container handling system is for transfer of containers from land to water at a site at the edge of the sea or river bank where there are no harbour facilities. A track (3) slopes down from the level part of the land (2) to a point under the level of the water, suitably supported on piles (4). Unloading wagons (7, 16) travel on rails (6) mounted on the sloping track. These wagons carry lighters (17) or other floating bodies supporting the containers (16), and release them at the water level. Each wagon is pulled by a cable (9) attached to the rear and another (8) at the front, passing around a winch on land and another winch (12) below the water level at the end of the track. This track can be protected by a wall (20) each side extending about the high water level. Each wagon carries supports matching the underside of the lighters which they carry.
|
