The blank pre-heating installation is for bringing up blanks to a temp. suitable for further shaping. For continuous operation the design uses two rotary furnaces with a movement control arranged to fit into the fixed cycle control of the prodn. line in such a way that the two rotary furnaces move in pilgrim step movement. The timing is such that when one of the furnace is in the discharging position, the other is in the charging position. Charging and discharging of the furnaces is carried out by a single machine. The arrangement allows the operation of the prodn. line with one furnace only, if the other is being repaired or undergoind maintenance.
