The multiplexed data is applied to a plurality of comparison units separating in parallel to perform comparisons between the multiplexed data and respective key values, and each comparison unit is time shared between the data channels to perform comparisons on data from the different channels independently. One of the disc file units may provide a plurality of the data channels, and a switching unit may select a sub-set of the total number of channels provided by the disc file units for application to the comparison units. |
